Drew will likely need surgery after fracturing his right ankle while trying to score from second base. The 28-year-old caught his foot on Milwaukee catcher Jonathan Lucroy as he was tagged sliding into home plate and had to be helped off the field by trainers.
On the very next play, Gomez made a diving catch in center field and fractured his collar bone. The Brewers were unsure whether Gomez would need surgery said he would be a big loss.
"People don't realize how valuable he is," Milwaukee outfielder Ryan Braun told reporters. "He's probably our best defensive player and one of the best defensive players in baseball. The guy is unbelievable in center field."
The Diamondbacks (52-46) dropped 4 games behind NL West leaders San Francisco, while the Brewers (53-46) moved a half-game in front of Pittsburgh atop the NL Central.
