NEW YORK (Reuters) - Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman Brooks Orpik had hernia surgery on Wednesday and is expected to be fit for the start of the National Hockey League season in October, the team said.
Orpik, 30, had similar surgery on his left side in 2010 and is expected to take six to eight weeks to recover, the Penguins said in a statement.
The former first-round draft pick had one goal and 12 assists in 63 games with the Penguins last season.
Pittsburgh open their regular season on October 6 against the Vancouver Canucks.
