MIAMI (Reuters) - The Tampa Bay Lightning rewarded Teddy Purcell with a two-year contract after a breakout season where the winger set career-highs in goals and assists, the National Hockey League (NHL) team said on Wednesday.
Financial terms of the deal, announced shortly before the restricted free agent was set to have an arbitration hearing, were not disclosed but a report on the NHL's website said it was worth $4.7 million.
Purcell recorded 17 goals and 34 assists in 81 games with the Lightning last season.
"He had a good year in 2010-11, his first full season in the NHL, and we look forward to seeing him continue to grow as a contributor," Lightning General Manager Steve Yzerman said in a statement.
