Twins put RHP Scott Baker on DL with elbow strain

The Minnesota Twins have placed right-hander Scott Baker on the disabled list with an elbow strain, one day before a huge home series against division-leading Cleveland.

Baker was scheduled to start the day game of a doubleheader on Monday against the Indians. But manager Ron Gardenhire said after a 4-3 win over the Royals on Sunday that Baker still wasn't feeling right. So the team placed him on the disabled list rather than risk a long-term injury.

The Twins selected the contract of left-hander Scott Diamond from Triple-A Rochester. Diamond will start the night game on Monday, with Anthony Swarzak moved up to pitch the day game.

The Twins also sent infielder Matt Tolbert to Rochester and recalled lefty Chuck James.
