Forward Brooks Laich signs six-year deal with Caps, avoids free agency

ARLINGTON, Va. - Brooks Laich is staying with the Washington Capitals.

The forward signed a six-year extension just days before becoming an unrestricted free agent.

Laich had 48 points (16-32) in 82 games last season.

He's played all but one of his 475 career NHL games for the Caps.

The 28-year-old appeared in one game with the Ottawa Senators before being traded to Washington, where he's had 100 goals and 237 points.
