Henrik Karlsson is staying in Calgary as Miikka Kiprusoff's backup. The Flames announced Monday that Karlsson signed a two-year contract extension worth $1.725 million. Karlsson would have been an unrestricted free agent July 1. He will earn $850,000 in 2011-12 and $875,000 in 2012-13.
Karlsson, 27, appeared in 17 games this past season, his first in the NHL. He started 11 and finished with a 4-5-6 record, 2.58 goals-against average and .908 save percentage.
