Center fielder B.J. Upton has left Tampa Bay's game at Florida with tightness in his left buttock.

Upton grounded out in the first inning and came out of the game in the third. He was replaced by Justin Ruggiano, making his big league debut.

Ruggiano joined the Rays on Friday after his contract was selected from Triple-A Durham.

Upton is batting .258 with seven homers and 27 RBIs. He has hit .326 with three homers in the past 12 games.
