Quiros advances in style at World Match Play

Alvaro Quiros qualified in style for the knockout stages of the World Match Play Championship on Friday, chipping in for an eagle to clinch a 5-and-4 victory over Denmark's Soren Kjeldsen.

The big-hitting Spanish player is best known for getting distance off the tee but showed deftness with his pitching by spinning his second shot at the par-4 14th back into the hole at the Finca Cortesin course in Andalusia.

It was the 26th-ranked Quiros' second win in Group H, having upset No. 9 Paul Casey 3 and 1 on Thursday.

Two-time U.S. Open champion Retief Goosen, reigning British Open champion Louis Oosthuizen and 2009 PGA Championship winner Y.E. Yang were all eliminated from the tournament after their second straight defeats.
