Cleverly learned Wednesday that Braehmer had not travelled to London, citing a cut eye for his no-show.
"He has had some personal problems in the past and I hope he can come back and fight again.
"But Nathan Cleverly is now the world champion and rightfully so because none of this was his fault."
"Cleverly is a great fighter but that's going to be a tough first defense," Kovac, the Hungarian former Olympic champion, said.
