Nishikori heading to Paris after kidney infection

The agent for Kei Nishikori says the Japanese tennis player is back at practice and will go to the French Open after treatment for a kidney infection.

Agent Olivier van Lindonk wrote in an email Tuesday that the 60th-ranked Nishikori would join his coaching team in Paris on Thursday. The year's second Grand Slam tournament starts Sunday.

Nishikori pulled out of last week's Italian Open and went to a hospital in Rome for what van Lindonk called "a small procedure to clean the infection in the kidney." Nishikori then was treated by doctors in Japan and "he is feeling ready to go and play the French Open," van Lindonk wrote.

In 2008, Nishikori became the first Japanese man since the 1930s to reach the U.S. Open's fourth round.
