School spokeswoman Annabelle Myers told The Associated Press on Friday that N.C. State received a waiver from the NCAA to allow country singer Scotty McCreery to appear publicly at the Wolfpack's game Saturday night as part of his made-for-TV hometown visit.
The 17-year-old once pitched for Garner Magnet High School in a Raleigh suburb. As a sophomore on the junior varsity team, the 5-foot-10 right-hander was 6-1 with a 1.07 ERA.
Colleges generally aren't allowed to publicize visits from high school players.
Myers says the waiver was granted after the school agreed it wouldn't recruit him or any member of his family.
