Iowa State forward Calvin Godfrey has been dismissed from the team after the school said he was arrested for marijuana possession.
Godfrey averaged 5.7 points and 5.4 rebounds in a promising freshman season in 2010-11.
But Iowa State coach Fred Hoiberg said in a statement on Monday night that Godfrey violated team rules on multiple occasions and that his arrest on Saturday night was the final straw.
Godfrey was suspended for three Big 12 games in February for violating unspecified team policies.
A phone message left for Godfrey by The Associated Press wasn't immediately returned, and further details of Godfrey's arrest weren't immediately available.
"I believe that helping young men develop as people is part of my responsibility as coach," Hoiberg said. "That's why I gave Calvin a chance to return to our team after his midyear suspension for team rules violations. But, his arrest over the weekend ended his association with our team."
Godfrey, a 6-foot-8 forward from Milwaukee, started five games and scored 23 points with 11 rebounds in a late-season win over Colorado.
He appeared to have a bright future with the Cyclones, but his dismissal leaves Iowa State's frontcourt thinner in 2011-12.
Center Jordan Railey, also a freshman last season, has been suspended indefinitely following his arrest for fighting in public last month, and fellow freshman Eric McKnight announced plans to transfer in March.
That leaves just three frontcourt players; transfers Royce White and Anthony Booker and sophomore Melvin Ejim, who averaged 10.3 points a game a year ago, on the active roster.
Hoiberg does have a pair of scholarships open for next season.
