During an interview with NHL.com prior to the airing of the first episode of "24/7 Penguins/Capitals: Road to the Winter Classic" on Dec. 15, HBO Sports President Ross Greenburg all but promised the series would bring home some hardware at the 32nd Annual Sports Emmy Awards.

That came to fruition on Monday when the documentary series received the Emmy for "Outstanding Edited Sports Special" when the awards were announced in New York City at the Frederick P. Rose Hall in Time Warner Center.

The critically-acclaimed, four-part documentary featuring the Penguins' cerebral coach Dan Bylsma -- a finalist for this year's Jack Adams Trophy -- and the Capitals' garrulous bench boss Bruce Boudreau received three Sports Emmy Nominations total, including Outstanding Post Produced Audio/Sound and The Dick Schaap Writing Award.

Also winning for "Outstanding Sports Personality -- Play-By-Play" was NBC's Mike Emrick, who has helped lead the network's Winter Classic, Game of the Week and Stanley Cup Playoffs coverage.

In total, winners in 33 categories including outstanding live sports special, live series, sports documentary, studio show, promotional announcements, play-by-play personality and studio analyst were honored.
