Browns pleased with draft picks

The Cleveland Browns' brass came away from perhaps the strangest draft in NFL history feeling they improved their roster.

Coach Pat Shurmur, general manager Tom Heckert and president Mike Holmgren each expressed pleasure with the Browns' selections, which began on Thursday night with the club trading the No. 6 overall pick to Atlanta in return for four additional picks.

Holmgren said trading that high first-round pick "was absolutely the right thing to do" for a team rebuilding after a 5-11 season. On Saturday, the Browns addressed more needs and made another trade, sending two sixth-round picks to Minnesota to move up and take Pittsburgh offensive lineman Jason Pinkston in the fifth round.

Pinkston grew up a Steelers fan but said he'll donate his black-and-gold gear to charity.
