Washington defenseman Mike Green will miss his 19th consecutive game Wednesday when the Capitals host the Panthers, but it's likely the All-Star blueliner will return to the lineup Saturday in the regular season finale at Florida.
Capitals coach Bruce Boudreau told reporters Wednesday morning at Kettler Capitals Iceplex that Green has not had any concussion symptoms for three weeks. Green agreed, saying he's "been ready for a while," but the team figures an extra few days of practice time will help him.
"He's ready to play and, I mean, he's been symptom-free for three weeks plus," Boudreau said according to the Washington Post. "It's just we're trying to be as cautious as we can with things, just as other people are with guys that they have as concussions and could probably play, but they want to make 100 percent sure. We feel he'll be good to go on Saturday."
Green hasn't played since leaving the Feb. 25 game against the Rangers early in the first period after Derek Stepan hit him. He was diagnosed with a concussion, but he's been skating for a while now.
"I'm in shape, ready to go, so expect me to play," Green said.
Boudreau wasn't sure if he'd have Alexander Semin in the lineup Wednesday. Semin missed Tuesday's game in Toronto with an undisclosed injury and is considered a game-time decision.
