Mandi Schwartz, a hockey player at Yale University and the older sister of St. Louis Blues prospect Jaden Schwartz, died Sunday morning at the age of 23 after a battle with cancer that lasted longer than two years.

Diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia in 2008, Schwartz's fight against the disease caught the attention of the hockey world and various media outlets across North America.

She is survived by two her father Rick Schwartz, mother Carol Schwartz, and two brothers, Jaden and Rylan. Jaden was selected by the Blues in the first round (No. 14) of the 2010 Entry Draft. He recently completed his first season with Colorado College.

"From the entire St. Louis Blues organization, our thoughts and prayers are with the Schwartz family during this difficult time," Blues President John Davidson said in a statement.
