The Montreal Canadiens ended their longest goal drought in 83 years when defenseman Roman Hamrlik scored 12:56 into Tuesday's game against the Atlanta Thrashers.
The Canadiens had been shut out in three consecutive games, something that hadn't happened since October 1949. Hamrlik's goal ended a drought of 199 minutes and 1 second of playing time, the longest the Canadiens had gone without a goal since Feb. 14-26, 1928, when they were blanked in four consecutive games.
Hamrlik's goal must have relieved a lot of pressure -- forward Mathieu Darche followed by scoring just 11 seconds later.
