Virginia coach Debbie Ryan says when she told her team she was resigning after 34 years, they were "all in" to keep playing if they receive a WNIT bid.
Ryan met with reporters Monday, two days after she announced she was stepping down.
The Cavaliers (16-15) are hoping to receive an invitation to the WNIT Monday night, and they resumed practicing on Sunday, a day after Ryan's resignation was announced.
Virginia is not expected to get into the NCAA tournament, a reality made worse with the university hosting first- and second-round games.
Ryan says she has been overwhelmed by phone calls and e-mail. Though she declined to say whether the resignation was her idea, Ryan says she still considers herself a basketball coach and didn't rule out coaching again elsewhere.
