Arsenal draws, Man City wins in Premier League

Arsenal stalled in its pursuit of Premier League leader Manchester United on Saturday by drawing 0-0 at home to Sunderland. Third-place Manchester City defeated Wigan 1-0.

Sunderland goalkeeper Simon Mignolet had a superb game, and a header by Arsenal's Marouane Chamakh hit the crossbar in the second half.

United has played the same number of games as Arsenal and can go six points in front if it beats Liverpool on the road Sunday. Manchester City moved four points behind Arsenal thanks to a 38th-minute goal by David Silva.

At the bottom of the standings, West Ham eased past Stoke 3-0 to climb out of the relegation zone. It was replaced by Birmingham, which lost 3-1 at home to West Brom.

Bolton and Fulham scored late goals to clinch 3-2 wins over Aston Villa and Blackburn. Everton rallied to defeat Newcastle 2-1.

BERLIN (AP) — Bayern Munich lost its third straight game for the first time in more than 10 years, falling 3-1 at Hannover in the Bundesliga to put coach Louis van Gaal's job in doubt.

Mohammed Abdellaoue and Konstantin Rausch gave Hannover a 2-0 lead before Arjen Robben cut it to 2-1 in the 55th minute. Sergio Pinto restored Hannover's two-goal advantage when goalkeeper Thomas Kraft was unable to hold his powerful long shot. Bayern defender Breno was ejected in the 73rd minute.

With nine games left, Hannover has five more points than fourth-place Bayern.

Second-place Bayer Leverkusen enjoyed a 3-0 home win over Wolfsburg. Wolfsburg, the 2009 champion, remained one point above the relegation zone.

Stuttgart won two straight games for the first time this season, pulling out of the relegation zone on goal difference after a 1-0 home win over 10-man Schalke. Christian Eigler scored four times as Nuremberg beat visiting St. Pauli 5-0. Eintracht Frankfurt and Kaiserslautern drew 0-0.

BARCELONA, Spain (AP) — Seydou Keita scored in the 43rd minute off a pass from Lionel Messi, giving Barcelona a 1-0 victory over Zaragoza that extended its league unbeaten streak to 25, one shy of the club record set in 1973-74.

Messi dribbled by two defenders to the end line before crossing back to Keita for his league-best 15th assist. Messi has 21 assists in all competitions to go with 43 goals in 39 games.

Barcelona is 10 points ahead of second-place Real Madrid, which is at Racing Santander on Sunday.

Barcelona didn't start regulars Andres Iniesta, David Villa, Sewgio Busquets and Eric Abidal ahead of Tuesday's Champions League game against Arsenal. Barcelona coach Pep Guardiola was on the sideline after being hospitalized for a herniated disk.

Third-place Valencia rallied for a 2-1 win at Mallorca, with Pablo Hernandez scoring twice after Ivan Ramis's penalty kick for Mallorca.

TURIN, Italy (AP) — Gennaro Gattuso scored his first goal in 2½ years, giving Serie A league leader AC Milan a 1-0 win over Juventus.

The defensive midfielder scored with a left-footed shot in the 68th minute. It was his first goal since Oct. 23, 2008 at Heerenveen in the UEFA Cup and his first league goal since Jan. 23, 2008 at Atalanta.

Milan leads Serie A by eight points over second-place Inter Milan, which hosts Genoa on Sunday. Juventus has lost seven of its last 11 games.

GLASGOW, Scotland (AP) — Kris Commons scored twice for Celtic, which downed Hamilton 2-0 to tighten its grip on first place in the Scottish Premier League.

Commons smashed a long shot into the corner to open the scoring in the 42nd minute. He added a goal on a curling shot in the 52nd.

Celtic moved eight points ahead of Rangers, which has three games in hand. The first of those comes at St. Mirren on Sunday.

Third-place Hearts missed the chance to close the gap by losing 2-0 at home to Kilmarnock. Inverness won 3-0 at home to Motherwell and St. Johnstone was held to a 1-1 draw by Hibernian.
