Baltimore Orioles right-hander Koji Uehara has been given a cortisone injection in his right elbow.
Uehara was scratched from his scheduled appearance Thursday in the Orioles' game against Minnesota.
The right-hander said through a translator that he wasn't worried about the elbow and expected to be able to pitch "within a week."
The 35-year-old Uehara has endured two injury-riddled seasons with Baltimore. After serving as a starter in 2009, Uehara enjoyed success as a closer in the latter part of the 2010 season.
He allowed one run and two hits on Monday against Pittsburgh on Monday in his first appearance of spring training.
Uehara and Kevin Gregg, signed as a free agent, entered spring training expected to compete for the closer's job.
