Timbers' Nagbe will have sports hernia surgery

Hermann Trophy winner Darlington Nagbe of the expansion Portland Timbers will have sports hernia surgery on Friday and could miss the start of the Major League Soccer season.

Nagbe, the No. 2 pick in the MLS draft, will be operated on Friday in Santa Monica, Calif.

Portland said Tuesday he is expected to miss two-to-four weeks.

Nagbe helped Akron win last year's NCAA men's soccer title.
