SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - The San Jose Sharks have signed red-hot Finnish goaltender Antti Niemi to a four-year contract extension, the NHL team said on Tuesday.
Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed but local media reported the contract will pay Niemi, who helped Chicago snap a 49-year Stanley Cup drought last June, $15.2 million.
"Once he got through his expected integration period with our club, Antti's play has been outstanding," Sharks General Manager Doug Wilson said in a statement.
The 27-year-old goalie has a 23-15-3 record this season with a 2.44 goals against average. Niemi has also won 10 of his last 12 games to help lift the Sharks into a two-point lead over Phoenix in the Pacific Division.
