FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Shane Gibson hit six 3-pointers and scored 24 points to lead Sacred Heart to an 88-66 season-ending victory over Monmouth (N.J.) on Saturday.
Louis Montes had 21 points and 13 rebounds for the Pioneers (11-18, 5-13 Northeast Conference), who didn't qualify for the conference tournament.
Mike Myers Keitt scored 20 points as Monmouth (9-21, 5-13) concluded its season on a three-game losing streak.
Sacred Heart, which had lost six of seven entering the game, rolled to a 48-18 halftime lead, shooting 62.1 percent in the first half (18 of 29) as the Hawks shot 25 percent (8 of 32).
Gibson hit two consecutive 3-pointers to help Sacred Heart close the first half on a 24-1 run. Montes scored nine points in that stretch.
Jerrell Thompson added 14 points and Stan Dulaire scored 10 for Sacred Heart.
Marcus Ware scored 11 and R.J. Rutledge added 10 for Monmouth.
