Diego Kapelan scored 17 points to lead McNeese State over Nicholls State 71-51 on Saturday.
Kapelan was recently selected as the Southland Player of the week after averaging 28 points over the Cowboys' past two games.
C.J. Collins added 11 points and Patrick Richard chipped in 10 for McNeese State (18-9, 10-4).
The Cowboys led 12-11 with 11:35 left in the first half before going on a 15-3 run. Stephan Martin's free throw capped the spurt for a 27-14 advantage with 4:05 to go until halftime and the Cowboys weren't threatened the rest of the way. McNeese State stretched its lead to as many as 32, 58-26 on Daniel Richard's layup with 8:18 to play.
McNeese State scored 21 points off 14 turnovers, while committing just eight against the country's fifth best team in turnover margin (plus-5.2).
Anatoly Bose led the Colonels (13-12, 7-7) with 26 points.
