Luke Donald of England has advanced to the semifinals for the first time in the Match Play Championship.

Donald is first starting his season, having made his debut last week at Riviera by making the cut. But he looked in midseason form Saturday morning against Ryan Moore, building a 5-up lead at the turn and closing out the American with a birdie on the 14th.

Donald was to play his semifinal match Saturday afternoon against Matt Kuchar, who beat Y.E. Yang, 2 and 1.

Martin Kaymer, closing in on the No. 1 ranking, was 2 up with two holes left against Miguel Angel Jimenez. In the other match, Bubba Watson was staging a great rally against J.B. Holmes. Five down with eight holes to go, Watson cut the margin to one with three to play.
