ROCK HILL, S.C. – Charles Corbin had 11 points and 10 rebounds and scored the go-ahead basket with 47 seconds left to lead Winthrop to a 61-56 victory over Liberty on Thursday night.
Corbin hit a jumper to give the Eagles (13-15, 9-8 Big South Conference) a 56-55 lead and they held on to end their three-game losing streak and send Liberty (19-11, 13-4) to its third consecutive loss.
Corbin's third free throw in 15 seconds gave Winthrop a 59-56 lead with 19 seconds to play and the Flames' final two possessions ended in a turnover and missed 3-point attempt.
There were seven ties and seven lead changes.
Winthrop had only nine turnovers and outscored Liberty 18-3 on points off turnovers.
Reggie Middleton, Robbie Dreher and Matt Morgan scored 10 points each for Winthrop.
Jesse Sanders scored 19 points, Evan Gordon had 11 and John Brown added 10 rebounds for Liberty.
