WASHINGTON – Dadrian Collins scored 13 points and Howard scored more than half of its points from the free throw line, beating Florida A&M 59-50 on Saturday.
Anton Dickerson finished with 11 points for the Bison (6-20, 4-9 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference), who made 30 free throws in a game where both teams combined to make nine field goals in the second half.
Collins broke a 34-all tie with a free throw, sparking an 11-1 run to give the Bison a 45-35 lead with 12:57 left in the second half. Howard pushed its margin to 11 points when Gary Lawerence hit two free throws.
Florida A&M (11-16, 6-7) cut the Bison's lead to 54-50 with 57 seconds left on a free throw by Amin Stevens, who was the only Florida A&M player to score in double figures with 22 points and 11 rebounds.
But Howard held the Rattlers scoreless and knocked down five free throws to pull away.
