The St. Louis Blues have traded defenseman Eric Brewer, the team captain, to the Tampa Bay Lightning.

The Blues acquired the rights to unsigned draft pick Brock Beukeboom, also a defenseman, plus a third-round draft pick in 2011.

The 31-year-old Brewer played 332 games over six seasons with St. Louis. He had eight goals and six assists with a plus-1 rating in 54 games this season after being slowed by injuries the previous two years.

The 20-year-old Beukeboom is playing for Sault Ste. Marie of the OHL for the third straight season and has eight points and 54 penalty minutes in 44 games this season. He's the son of former NHL defenseman Jeff Beukeboom and was a third-round pick in the 2010 draft.
