SALVO, North Carolina (Reuters) - Collegiate coaches Andrew Valmon and Amy Deem have been selected to lead U.S. athletics teams at the 2012 London Olympics, USA Track and Field (USATF) announced Thursday.

Maryland's Valmon will coach the American men and Miami's Deem will direct the women.

Their selections are subject to final approval by the U.S. Olympic Committee's chief executive officer, USATF said.

Valmon won gold medals with the U.S. 4x400 meters relay teams at the 1988 and 1992 Olympics.

Deem has worked at the University of Miami for 20 years, currently serving as the director of men's and women's track and field/cross country.

The team included athletes from North America, Central America and the Caribbean.

The majority of the U.S. team will be selected at the U.S. Olympic Trials in Eugene, Oregon, June 22 through July 1, 2012.
