Orioles avoid arbitration with outfielder Luke Scott

BALTIMORE (Reuters)- The Baltimore Orioles and outfielder Luke Scott avoided arbitration by agreeing to terms on a one-year contract, the team said on Thursday.

Scott, 32, hit .284 with 27 home runs and 72 RBIs last season.

In three seasons with the Orioles, Scott, a six-year major league veteran, has batted .266 with 75 home runs and 214 RBIs.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Baltimore was 66-96 last year, finishing 30 games behind first-place Tampa Bay in the American League East. The Orioles have not made the playoffs since 1997, the last time they finished a season at the .500 mark.
