NEW YORK (Reuters) - The Boston Red Sox added one more piece to their bullpen by signing former New York Yankees reliever Alfredo Aceves to a one-year contract on Tuesday, according to a report on Major League Baseball's website.
Aceves, whose 2010 season with New York was cut short due to a back injury, signed for $650,000 with another $100,000 in incentives, the website said (mlb.com said).
The Mexican right-hander, who also broke his collar bone this offseason in a bicycle riding accident, was 3-0 with a 3.00 earned run average last season in 12 innings.
Over his three major league seasons, all with the Yankees, the 28-year-old Aceves is 14-1, including a 10-1 mark in 2009.
The Red Sox signed former Chicago White Sox closer Bobby Jenks and Tampa Bay Rays reliever Dan Wheeler earlier in the offseason.
