Packers defeat Steelers 31-25 to win Super Bowl

ARLINGTON, Texas – The original Super Bowl champions are on top again.

Aaron Rodgers threw three touchdown passes, two to Greg Jennings, and the Green Bay Packers defeated the Pittsburgh Steelers 31-25 on Sunday to win the Super Bowl at Cowboys Stadium.

It is the fourth Super Bowl title for the Packers, their first since 1997 when Brett Favre was their quarterback. Vince Lombardi, the namesake of the championship trophy, was their coach when they won the first two Super Bowl played in the late 1960s.

Pittsburgh was going for its third title in six seasons, but that goal came to an end when Ben Roethlisberger's fourth-down pass in the final minute was incomplete.

Jennings' 8-yard TD early in the fourth quarter made it 28-17, and was the first score for the Packers since Jennings' 21-yard TD had put Green Bay up 21-3 before halftime.

After Jennings' second score, the Steelers responded with Roethlisberger throwing a 25-yard TD pass to Mike Wallace with 7:34 left. Pittsburgh then went for two, and Antwaan Randle El took a pitch into the end zone to cut the gap to a field goal.

Rodgers finished 24-of-39 passing for 304 yards and three touchdowns. Roethlisberger was 25 of 40 for 263 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions, both in the first half and leading to Green Bay touchdowns.

After Green Bay started the second half with three penalties and a punt, Pittsburgh went 50 yards in five plays. Rashard Mendenhall started that drive with a 17-yard run and capped it by bulling into the end zone from 8 yards out to get within 21-17.

The Steelers had a chance to get closer. But Shaun Suisham was wide left on a 52-yard field goal attempt late in the third quarter. That came a play after Frank Zombo sacked Roethlisberger.

Roethlisberger's first touchdown pass came just before the 32-minute halftime break highlighted by the Black Eyed Peas performing. R&B star Usher and former Guns 'N Roses guitarist Slash made special appearances as part of the set.

The first TD catch by Jennings came after Jarrett Bush set the Packers up with an interception near midfield. Nick Collins returned the other interception thrown by Roethlisberger 37 yards for a touchdown.
