Julian Boyd scored 34 points and grabbed 16 rebounds to lead Long Island to a 97-89 win over Fairleigh Dickinson on Thursday night.

Boyd scored 21 points in the opening half as the Blackbirds (14-5, 6-2 Northeast Conference) shot 54.1 percent from the floor (20 for 37) to take a 54-39 halftime lead.

David Hicks scored 21 points, Michael Culpo 13 and Jamal Olasewere 11 for Long Island, which has won nine of its last 10.

The Knights (4-14, 2-6) closed it to 59-55 after a layup from Kamil Svrdlik with 14:20 left to play, but that was as close as they would get.

John Galvin scored 24, Svrdlik finished with 21 points and 14 rebounds and Tyler Reynolds had 14 points for the Knights, who have lost 12 of 13.

Both teams combined to score 90 points in the paint, with Long Island holding a 46-44 edge. The Blackbirds also shot 81.1 percent from the free-throw line (30 of 37).
