NEW YORK – The injury-plagued New York Rangers lost two more key forwards Wednesday when Brandon Dubinsky and Ruslan Fedotenko were ruled out for several weeks.
A few hours before their 7-0 victory over the Toronto Maple Leafs, the Rangers said that Dubinsky, who has a team-high 17 goals and 38 points, will be sidelined three to four weeks because of a stress fracture in his left leg. The center was examined by team doctor Andrew Feldman earlier in the day, and an MRI and bone scan revealed the fracture in his left fibula.
Rangers coach John Tortorella said after the game that Fedotenko is expected to miss two to four weeks because of a sprained left shoulder.
The left wing was injured midway through the second period Wednesday when he took an open-ice hit from Toronto defenseman Mike Komisarek that he didn't seem to see coming. Fedotenko skated off the ice with his arm hanging limply and didn't return
New York recalled forwards Chad Kolarik and Brodie Dupont from Connecticut of the AHL to fill in for Dubinsky and Fedotenko. The team will begin a three-game trip Thursday night at Carolina.
The Rangers are already without injured forwards Alex Frolov, Ryan Callahan, Vinny Prospal, and Erik Christensen as they try to hold on to a playoff position in the Eastern Conference. Frolov has already been ruled out for the season.
