Selanne's 2 goals lead Ducks over Oilers 3-2

ANAHEIM, Calif. – Teemu Selanne scored two goals and the Anaheim Ducks beat the Edmonton Oilers 3-2 Sunday night.

The Ducks won for the seventh time in nine games. Defenseman Luca Sbisa scored a power-play goal.

Anaheim backup goalie Curtis McElhinney was cut on the neck by teammate Maxim Lapierre's skate at 11:36 of the second period and the Ducks holding a 2-0 lead.

McElhinney went to the dressing room to get stitched up and was replaced by Jonas Hiller, who faced three shots before McElhinney returned during a play stoppage at 14:29 of the period after an interference penalty was called against Sbisa.

Selanne cashed in during the ensuing power play, redirecting Lubomir Visnovsky's long wrist shot past Khabibulin at 17:32 of the second to make it 3-0.

Magnus Paajarvi and Sam Gagner scored 26 seconds apart late in the second period for the Oilers, who are 3-11-2 over their last 16 games. The Oilers are scoreless on 38 straight power plays since Dec. 23 after coming up empty five times on Sunday night.

Edmonton's Nikolai Khabibulin stopped 25 shots and lost his eighth straight since Dec. 16, when he made 37 saves in against Columbus.

Anaheim beat Edmonton for the seventh time in eight meetings.

Paajarvi got Edmonton on the board at 18:18 of the second, converting a long rebound left by McElhinney on a blocker-pad save against Gagner. The Oilers closed to 3-2 when Gagner beat McElhinney to the stick side with a one-timer from the left circle. But Mclhinney stopped Edmonton's final 13 shots.

Edmonton, which came in with a league-worst 74.5 percentage on the penalty kill, fell behind 1-0 at 9:23 of the first while Steve McIntyre was off for high-sticking Corey Perry. Sbisa beat Khabibulin to the glove side with a screened one-timer from the right point, while Edmonton defenseman Ladislav Smid was tying up Jason Blake at the edge of the crease.

Selanne made it 2-0 on a rebound at 17:00. Visnovsky's slap shot from the right point stuck the blade of Selanne's stick on the way to Khabibulin, who couldn't control the spinning puck.

NOTES: The Ducks, who lost 6-2 at Phoenix on Saturday, are 6-1 this season when coming off defeats in which they allowed five or more goals. ... Selanne needs two assists to tie Hall of Fame D Brad Park's total of 683 for 54th place all-time. ... Brian Hayward, who has been the Ducks' TV analyst since the team's inception in 1993, worked his 1,000th regular-season broadcast with the club and was acknowledged during a pregame ceremony. Hayward was hired a few months after ending his 11-year NHL goaltending career. ... Hiller, the only Western Conference goalie to be selected for next month's All-Star game, allowed four goals in each of the previous two games after consecutive shutouts against Columbus and San Jose. ... McElhinney is 4-0-0 against Edmonton.
