Jamal Webb scored 11 of North Dakota's first 15 points, and the Fighting Sioux went on to defeat South Dakota 75-62 on Saturday in the Great West Conference opener for both teams.

North Dakota (8-9) went scoreless for the first 5 minutes of the game and trailed just 3-0 before Webb took over. His jumper and 3-pointer got things started, and he finished off a 15-6 run to open the game with a steal and layup with 11:13 left in the first half.

The Fighting Sioux led 37-25 at the half, and South Dakota (8-10) got as close as 48-45 midway through the second half, but a 6-0 run by North Dakota shut the door on the Coyotes.

Webb finished with a team-high 15 points, while Josh Schuler and Patrick Mitchell added 13 each and Brandon Brekke had 11.

Louie Krogman led South Dakota with 16 points. Charlie Westbrook, the Coyotes' leading scorer at 15.8 points per game, was held to 7 on 2-of-12 shooting.
