PHOENIX (Reuters) - Shane Doan scored twice as the Phoenix Coyotes put on an offensive showcase to crush Los Angeles 6-3 on Wednesday, snapping the Kings' four-game winning streak.
Doan opened the scoring in an action-packed first period, where the Coyotes took a 4-3 lead. Doan also converted a slap shot at 6:11 in the second period and team mate Kyle Turris scored four minutes later to put the game out of reach.
The third period was surprisingly scoreless, although Phoenix's six goals were a season-high.
"I don't think we scored six goals in the last three weeks," Doan told reporters.
"It's nice to get some goals, especially against L.A., when they kept coming back and we were able to respond."
Kings (22-13-1) goaltender Jonathan Quick, who was coming off a shutout against San Jose on Monday, was pulled after allowing all six goals on 18 shots.
Back-up Jonathan Bernier came on and stopped all 13 shots he faced.
The Coyotes (17-12-7), who had lost three of four entering the game, got goals from Ray Whitney, Scottie Upshall and Brett MacLean, who was making his NHL debut.
Brad Richardson and Ryan Smyth notched the first two scores for Los Angeles while Marco Sturm pulled the visitors to within 4-3.
With the loss, the Kings remained three points behind first-place Dallas in the Pacific Division.
"Tonight was just a bad game for us," Los Angeles defenseman Matt Greene said. "This is one of those games that maybe you just want to put behind you."
