NEW YORK (Reuters) - A sore throwing shoulder for Mark Sanchez could make the New York Jets quarterback's availability a game-time decision for their upcoming clash against the Chicago Bears, coach Rex Ryan said on Thursday.
On Wednesday Ryan said he had no doubt Sanchez would play in Chicago, where the Bears (10-4) pursue a playoff bye and the Jets (10-4) would claim a playoffs berth with a victory on Sunday.
"I think I underestimated where he (Sanchez) was with that injury yesterday," Ryan told reporters after the team's workout at Florham Park, New Jersey.
"He's got a sore shoulder, there's no question about it. I thought he would have been ready to go if we would have had to play yesterday, but I misspoke.
"He threw the ball today. Never had a ton of zip on it, but he threw the ball. This one could be more of a game-time decision than I thought it would be."
Should second-year quarterback Sanchez be unable to start, 40-year-old Mark Brunell would fill in.
"I feel comfortable with Mark Brunell," Ryan said about the three-times Pro Bowl quarterback (1996, '97, '99) during his years with the Jacksonville Jaguars. "If we have to go with Mark Brunell I think we'll be just fine."
