RALEIGH, North Carolina (Reuters) - Calgary Flames general manager Darryl Sutter traded his son Brett Sutter and defenseman Ian White to the Carolina Hurricanes for Anton Babchuk and Tom Kostopoulos, the NHL teams said on Wednesday.

White had played in all 16 of the Flames games this season, scoring two goals and four assists.

"Ian is a complete defenseman who can play in our top four and in all situations," Carolina general manager Jim Rutherford said in a statement.

"Brett is a young forward who is in the development stages of his professional career and gives us depth at the forward positions."

Babchuk, a defenseman and native of Ukraine, has recorded three goals and five assists in 17 games this season.

Kostopoulos has scored 49 goals and 81 assists in nine NHL seasons which have included stops in Pittsburgh, Los Angeles, Montreal and Carolina.
