Harris' 3 TDs lift BC past Wake Forest 23-13

Montel Harris rushed for 183 yards and three touchdowns, and Boston College beat Wake Forest 23-13 on Saturday to give the Demon Deacons sole possession of last place in their division.

Harris, the ACC's leading rusher, scored on 26-, 3- and 1-yard runs and surpassed former North Carolina star Amos Lawrence as the conference's most prolific rusher through his junior season. Harris has rushed for 3,377 yards in three seasons; Lawrence had 3,273.

Chase Rettig was 12 of 16 for 133 yards for the Eagles (4-5, 2-4), who held Wake Forest (2-7, 1-5) to 69 yards rushing and intercepted freshman Tanner Price four times.

Price finished 18 of 30 for 177 yards while receiver Marshall Williams threw a 41-yard touchdown pass to Chris Givens midway through the fourth quarter.

The Demon Deacons lost their seventh straight to slide into the Atlantic Division cellar all by themselves and guaranteed that they won't qualify for a bowl game for the second straight year.

BC, meanwhile, remains in the mix for one of the ACC's bowl slots. The Eagles wrap up the season by facing the two worst teams in the Coastal Division — Duke and Virginia — before finishing against surprising Syracuse.

Harris put the Eagles up 7-0 roughly 30 seconds into the game, when he ran 26 yards up the middle for a touchdown on their second play from scrimmage. He later scored from 3 yards out early in the second quarter, then powered in from 1 yard early in the third. Nate Freese kicked a 25-yard field goal with 3:35 left to close the scoring.

Jimmy Newman kicked field goals covering 37 and 39 yards for Wake Forest.
