CHICAGO (Reuters) - Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler will miss Sunday's NFL game away to the Carolina Panthers as he continues to recover from a concussion, the team said on Thursday.

Cutler, who suffered the injury in last weekend's loss to the New York Giants when he was sacked nine times in the first half, met with Bears doctors and an independent consultant on Wednesday, the team said on its website (www.chicagobears.com).

"Both parties recommended that Cutler, who has made steady progress, continue to work out on a limited basis through the end of the week and sit out Sunday's game before being re-evaluated again early next week," the team said.

Todd Collins will replace Cutler. He will be making his first start since 2007 when he was with the Washington Redskins.
