Dixon ruled out for Steelers with knee injury

PITTSBURGH (Reuters) - Dennis Dixon, who began the season as starting quarterback for the Pittsburgh Steelers while Ben Roethlisberger served a suspension, was placed on injured reserve with a knee injury, the NFL team said on Saturday.

The third-year quarterback tore cartilage in his left knee during Pittsburgh's 19-11 win at Tennessee on September 19 and had surgery last week.

In his two starts, Dixon led Pittsburgh to back-to-back victories and went 22-of-32 for 254 yards with one interception. He also rushed five times for 32 yards.

Roethlisberger, serving a four-game suspension following accusations of sexual assault, is expected to return to the undefeated Steelers after Sunday's game against Baltimore.
