The Washington Redskins have released veteran RB Larry Johnson, a source confirmed.

Johnson signed a three-year, $3.5 million contract with Washington back in March. The deal also included up to $6.75 million in incentives. His contract did not include a signing bonus.

Johnson's release leaves the Redskins with just two running backs on their 53-man roster. The team worked out free-agent RB Chad Simpson on Tuesday, so it's possible that the team signs him to replace Johnson.
