DETROIT (Reuters) - The Detroit Red Wings continued to add experience to their line-up by signing defenceman Ruslan Salei to a one-year deal, the NHL team said on Monday.

The Red Wings, who last week signed 40-year-old Mike Modano -- the highest scoring American-born player in the NHL -- bolstered a blueline that is anchored by 40-year-old six-time Norris trophy winner Nicklas Lidstrom.

Taken with the ninth overall pick in the 1996 draft by Anaheim, Salei has appeared in 842 career games with the Ducks, Florida Panthers and Colorado Avalanche scoring 43 goals and 151 assists over 13 NHL seasons.

The 35-year-old defenceman was captain of Belarus at the 2010 Vancouver Olympics.
