Reds 2B Brandon Phillips apologizes for speeding

CINCINNATI (AP) — Reds second baseman Brandon Phillips has apologized for speeding on his way home after Cincinnati's 10-3 win over Cleveland on Friday night.

Phillips was stopped by police in northern Kentucky and booked on a reckless driving charge. Police said he was going roughly twice the speed limit in a 35 mph zone.

Phillips' mother was with him in the car. He said Saturday his family is in town to celebrate his 29th birthday on Monday, and he was trying to get home quickly after the game so they could go out to eat. Phillips said he has no problem with how police handled the matter.

A Kenton County Jail spokeswoman said he was booked and released on $25 bond.
