HALLE, Germany (AP) — Top-seeded Roger Federer has eased into the quarterfinals of the Gerry Weber Open, beating Alejandro Falla of Colombia 6-1, 6-2.
Federer won in 52 minutes Thursday and will next play Germany's Philipp Kohlschreiber, who defeated Switzerland's Marco Chiudinelli 6-4, 7-5 in this grass-court Wimbledon tuneup.
Federer is a five-time winner in Halle. The Swiss star conceded just two break points in his second-round match on center court but saved both of them.
French Open semifinalist Jurgen Melzer was upset. The sixth-seeded Austrian lost to Germany's Mischa Zverev 3-6, 7-6 (2), 7-6 (3).
