Report: Cavs offer Izzo coaching gig

Cleveland Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert may be looking to fill his team's head coaching vacancy with a fellow Spartan. The team reportedly has its sights set on Michigan State coach Tom Izzo, according to the News-Herald of Northern Ohio.

The paper is reporting that the Cavs have already made the coach an offer, citing a league source. Izzo has not confirmed whether an offer has been made.

Izzo, who has taken his teams to the Final Four six times, was rumored to be in the mix for the Cavs' coaching job in 2005, when the gig ultimately went to the recently fired Mike Brown. Izzo said he never met with Gilbert.

In a recent interview with ESPN, Izzo, who is under contract with Michigan State through 2016, said he wouldn't be interested in coaching in the NBA until he brings another championship back to East Lansing.

The Cavs, meanwhile, are tasked with finding a replacement for Brown who will be able to sway LeBron James to remain in Cleveland when he becomes a free agent on July 1.
