After being shut out in Games 1 and 2 of the Eastern Conference Finals, the Montreal Canadiens needed just 7:05 to get a puck past Philadelphia goaltender Michael Leighton in Game 3 on Thursday night.
Michael Cammalleri scored to end Leighton's shutout streak at 172 minutes and 55 seconds, dating back to the first period of Philadelphia's 4-3 win over Boston in Game 7 last Friday. P.K. Subban's shot from the right point missed the net but caromed off the end boards right to Cammalleri, who rifled it into the net from the lower left circle before Leighton could go post-to-post -- setting off an eruption from the sellout crowd of 21,273 at the Bell Centre.
Leighton hadn't given up a goal since Milan Lucic scored at 14:10 of the first period in the Flyers' come-from-behind win against Boston. Leighton went 127:05 in this series before allowing a goal.
Cammalleri's goal also ended Philadelphia's team-record streak of scoring 13 consecutive goals -- the last four in Game 7 against Boston and nine in a row in the first two games against Montreal. It's the longest such streak since Anaheim scored 13 in a row during the 2007 playoffs.
Scoring first figures to be a good omen for the Canadiens -- they are 7-1 in this year's playoffs when they get the first goal but just 1-6 when the opposition scores first.
