DETROIT (Reuters) - New York Yankees reliever Alfredo Aceves has been placed on the 15-day disabled list with back problems, the team said Wednesday.

Aceves, a right-hander who is 3-0 with a 3.00 ERA in 10 games this season, experienced problems with his back during a bullpen pitching session on Tuesday.

He will return to New York for additional tests on his lower back, the Yankees, who are playing in Detroit, said on their website (http://newyork.yankees.mlb.com).

"Backs are tricky," Yankees manager Joe Girardi said. "You never know. It could be a week, it could be a couple of days, it could be two weeks. You just don't know."
