VANCOUVER -- This city and GM Place will always hold a special place in Brent Seabrook's heart, and it's not just because he's from nearby Richmond, B.C. This is where the Blackhawks' defenseman experienced the greatest time of his hockey life by winning gold with Canada at the 2010 Olympics.
But being right near home and back in the city and building where everything turned to gold just a few months ago is the furthest thing from Seabrook's mind right now. He touched on that and more in his session with the media prior to Game 6 (9:30 p.m. ET, VERSUS, CBC, RDS).
Q: What is the first thing that comes to mind when you come to this city and this building?
Seabrook: We need a big win tonight. We've had some success here this year, but we have to be focused and ready to come with the right attitude tonight.
Q: Is there anything about this building, the ice, whatever it may be, that you guys particularly like?
Seabrook: I don't know about that. It's playoffs and you want to win, and I thought we came and had the right attitude for Game 3 and Game 4 here in Vancouver and we got the job done. It was big for us and we have to come out with the same effort tonight.
Q: There wasn't a lot of pressure on you to win in Game 5, but do you feel it more now?
Seabrook: Yeah, absolutely. There is pressure throughout the playoffs. It would have been nice to get the victory in Chicago to close them out, but they're a great team. We have to have a way better effort than we did the other night.
Q: Do you treat this as a Game 7?
Seabrook: I don't think you want to treat it like a Game 7, you just want to go out and play your game and play hard. We're confident in the way we play and how our game is going, so we just have to keep doing it.
Q: If they play the same way they did last game where they let you guys come to them by waiting and then really stuffed the middle and the passing lanes, how do you adjust to that?
Seabrook: There are a lot of things you've got to do and I don't think we did a good enough job of managing the puck and playing with the puck the last game in Chicago. We have to shore up some things.
Q: How does this benefit San Jose that you guys are playing again tonight?
Seabrook: Well, they're getting rest and getting guys healthy that have been hurt. Little bumps and bruises have a chance to heal.
Q: The Olympic angle doesn't go away and here you are with another chance to close something out on this ice?
Seabrook: I don't think about that. I'm not worried about that right now. It was a great time and it was a huge honor to win that, but I'm not thinking about that right now.
